NSK KVS series Extra-Capacity Sealed-Clean Four-Row Tapered Roller Bearings

NSK will present a number of its latest bearing solutions for the steel industry at Metal-Expo 2016 (Moscow, 8-11 November). In steelmaking, bearings can be found in a vast range of plant and equipment found in both upstream and downstream processes: from the storage yard for raw materials to the smelting, rolling and refining processes. At Metal-Expo, visitors will be able to discover for themselves the benefits of using bearings from NSK, which can count on 100 years of experience in designing and manufacturing solutions for demanding sectors such as the steel industry.

Metal manufacturing is unique as the working environment typically contains metallic dust, moisture and heat. In addition, the bearings will likely have to cope with heavy loads and vibration; operational speeds range from extremely slow through to high, coupled with rapid acceleration and deceleration. With these factors in mind, NSK has developed a comprehensive selection of bearings for the steel industry, from regular bearings meeting ISO standards through to its own independently-developed, high-capacity specialised bearings.

Among the exhibits on booth 2E19 (hall 75) will be RUB series Cylindrical Roller Bearings with Aligning Rings for the free end of single and segmented rolls found on continuous casting machines. RUB bearings are designed to overcome many issues encountered by users of these heavy-duty, hot-working machines. For instance, factors such as no differential sliding and the bearing’s self-aligning capabilities mean that wear can be minimised. Further benefits of RUB series bearings include smooth relief of roll expansion, along with the use of an easy-handling, full-complement type cage with high-load capacity.

For the work rolls found in rolling mill applications at the cold end of the process, NSK will present its KVS 355 Extra-Capacity Sealed-Clean Four-Row Tapered Roller Bearings. These bearings offer 15-35% higher load capacity compared with conventional sealed bearings and deliver an estimated life extension of 1.6 to 2.7 times. Furthermore, they are constructed using NSK’s high-durability Super-TF steel as standard, while contamination resistance is improved through the use of heat- and water-resistant sealing materials.

A further innovation showcased on the NSK booth will be the company’s range of Molded-Oil bearings, which are designed to be maintenance-free as oil is released from the internal Molded-Oil system on demand, without the need for replenishment. These bearings provide excellent performance in water- and dust-contaminated environments.

Metal-Expo visitors will also be able to see the company’s extensive range of Spherical Roller Bearings. For instance, bearings in the HPS (High Performance Standard) series are of double-row construction, which means they are capable of carrying heavy radial loads with moderate axial loads in either direction. In addition, the surface profile of the rollers and the inner ring raceway enable the self-aligning function to permit full capacity loading. The HPS series offers longer operating life and higher limiting speeds than conventional bearings.

Alongside its bearing products, NSK will be drawing the attention of steel industry professionals to the company’s AIP+ Added Value Programme, which is purpose-designed to help ensure the optimised and profitable operation of machinery and equipment. On display will be tools for the correct mounting of bearings and successful condition monitoring.
